Montiel vs Donaire results: Donaire wins w/ a Fantastic TKO in 2nd round



Filipino flash Nonito Donaire will fight Fernando Montiel for WBC and WBO Bantamweight World Titles tonight Feb 19, 2001 at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada. This fight will give Donaire a chance to win a world title in his third weight class. Last December 4, 2010, Donaire, 25-1 with 17 KO's successfully challenged former WBA bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Bantamweight Title. Donaire knocked down Sidorenko thrice and became the first man to stop Sidorenko.
However this time, to challenge WBO and WBC champion Fernando Montiel is an ardous task. The slick Mexican pride Montiel record stands at 44-2-2 with 34 knockouts is currently rated by The Ring Magazine as the number seven pound-for-pound boxer in the world. Fernando had a 10 round non title bout against fellow Mexican Jovanny Soto, on December 10, 2010 in Saltillo, Coahuila. Montiel destroyed Soto via KO in the second round.
Whoever will emerged as winner in tonight's fight would surely entertains the boxing fans in this head to head match-up.
update: Filipino Mark Melligen snags a Unanimous Decision against Gabriel Martinez with score 99-91, 99-91, 98-92 from the judges. Melligen improves to 21-2 record, was good in fast counter punching which proves very effective in his favor throughout the fight. The fight was one of the matchup going to the main event of Montiel vs Donaire held in Mandalay, Las Vegas.

Nonito Donaire jabs were busy at the start. Lateral movements and wow - an uppercut land on Montiel but he eats it up. Montiel charging early but backs up with Donaire's busy counter pounching. Montiel went to the body and both traded jabs. Donaire lands straight jab.

Donaire get busy early and lands jabs and uppercut, montiel is pretty strong. Donaire keep on firing jabs. The two exchange jabs, wow, Donaire lands strong left hand which floors Montiel. WOW!Montiel beats the count, but now his knees is woobling. Donaire attacks him furiously. It's over!! That was quick!

Nonito Donaire, Jr. (born on November 16, 1982) is a Filipino American professional boxer. He is a three-division world champion, where he won five world titles in three different boxing weight classes. He is a known switch-hitter with the ability to fight either southpaw or orthodox. His surname is often mispronounced as do-nayr but it's properly pronounced as do-nigh-reh.
Currently, Donaire is the WBC and WBO Bantamweight World Champion. He is also currently rated by The Ring as the number three pound-for-pound boxer in the world. He is the former WBA Super Flyweight Interim World Champion, IBF World Flyweight Champion and IBO World Flyweight Champion.
in General Santos that Donaire would go to the same school as boxing icon eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. His father Nonito Sr., a second year high school dropout, was in the Philippine Army for eight years and fought as an amateur before trying his luck alone in the US in 1990. In 1993, he had joined his father in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California.
During their younger years, Donaire and his older brother Glenn would spar, with the younger brother being beaten often. As a kid, Donaire watched videos of his hero Alexis Argüello, using them to learn how to throw his powerful left hook. While in San Lorenzo High School inSan Lorenzo, California the brothers won an assortment of regional and district amateur boxing championships.
As a young American amateur, Donaire won three national championships: the National Silver Gloves in 1998, National Junior Olympics in 1999, and the National USA Tournament in 2000. He also won the International Junior Olympics in 1999. Donaire's amateur record was 68-8 with 5 TKOs.
